Telstra Lite Phones- Which One Is Best?

Telstra Lite Phones- Which One Is Best?

The Telstra Lite phones are range of basic phones that are sold by Telstra and are designed for seniors and anyone that wants a basic phone. The phones have gotten better since the first release but they might not be what you are looking for. In this article I will be comparing the Telstra Lite phones to find out more about them and answer the question which one is best?

What Are The Telstra Lite Phones?

Telstra Lite Phones

The Telstra Lite phones are a range of phones that are sold by the phone company Telstra in Australia. They are basic phones and there are currently 3 phones in the Telstra Lite range which are the Telstra Lite, Telstra Lite 2 and Telstra Lite 3.

Each phone that is released in the Telstra Lite range is an upgrade of the previous phone in the range and has new features and better hardware. The first of the Telstra Lite phones was the Telstra Lite in 2017 followed by the Telstra Lite 2 in 2020 and most recently the Telstra Lite 3 in 2022.

Each of the Telstra Lite phones are designed for seniors and anyone looking for an easy to use basic phone. They all have some good features but also some drawbacks that may make the phones not worth purchasing. That being said they are still decent phones and will suit the needs of many people.

Telstra Lite

Telstra Lite

The Telstra Lite was the first of the Telstra Lite phones and it was released in 2017. It is a basic phone with some decent features and it is easy to use. The Telstra Lite has support for 3G but no support for 4G, 4GX or 5G meaning you won’t be able to use it once 3G is switched off in your country. But until then it can still be used and it has some decent features for a basic phone that could be worth it for you.

Outside Of The Phone

The Telstra Lite is lightweight and has a nice looking design which is quite basic but it still looks nice. The outside of the phone is black with the Telstra logo printed on the back of the phone. The front of the phone features a 2.4 inch 240 x 320 display and a physical keypad with small keys.

The display is fine and is actually reasonably bright but the keypad is a bit small for my liking and in my opinion should be bigger because it is a bit tedious and tricky to use for seniors due to it’s small size. The top of the phone has Micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack while the bottom of the phone has nothing and the back of the phone has a camera and flashlight.

Overall the body of the Telstra Lite is quite basic and nothing to write home about but it works for what it is. It would be good if the keypad was bigger but you get by and be able to use it alright for light usage.

Menu & Navigation

The Telstra Lite has a great menu that is easy to see and understand with all the apps and options displayed in a basic layout. The icons could be a bit bigger for those who have trouble seeing but I have no complaints about the menu other than that.

It is a basic menu but it works quite well the way it is and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding what you want to use on the phone. Navigation is easy for the most part and is done by using the navigation keys on the keypad. Sometimes these keys can be a bit hard to press correctly due to them being small and you might accidently hit more than one at a time.

But aside from that navigation works fine and it is quite quick to navigation between apps and menus on the phone which is good and makes the phone easy to use. Overall the menu and navigation the Telstra Lite is easy and basic. It could be improved with larger menu icons and a bigger keypad but it still works fine the way it is most of the time.

Internet & Connectivity

The Telstra Lite has the ability to access the internet via mobile data and it includes a basic web browser and an email app which both work fine. Aside from these features there is not much else you can do on the phone that is internet related due to the lack of apps and features.

Connectivity is also limited on the phone with the only connectivity options being Bluetooth for transferring files between other Bluetooth devices and there is also a headphone jack and the Micro USB port which doesn’t allow you to do much other than basic tasks.

Overall internet and connectivity is not that good on the Telstra Lite due to the lack of apps and features but at least it does have Bluetooth and internet access. It would be good if you were able to do more internet related things on the phone but that’s what you should expect from a phone that is as cheap and basic as this one.

Apps & Other Features

The Telstra Lite doesn’t have much in the way of apps because it only has the basic apps you get on all phones like Calls, SMS, Contacts, Camera, Media Player, Image Gallery, File Browser and other similar apps. There is no app store or any way to download other apps on the phone meaning you are stuck with the apps that are preinstalled on the phone.

Other features of the Telstra Lite include an FM radio, voice recorder and a camera that takes low quality photos. The phone also has a flashlight which isn’t too bad but is nothing good in any means and it only has 63MB internal storage which is not expandable so it won’t get you very far.  As you can see aside from the features it does have the Telstra Lite is quite a basic and limited phone.

Overall apps are limited on the Telstra Lite as it only includes basic apps that come on all phones and there is no app store or any way to download other apps. It is also limited with low internal storage that is not expandable and in other features because it only has things like an FM radio, low quality camera and a flashlight. Although it could have been a lot better the apps and features are not too bad for such a cheap and basic phone.

Who Is The Telstra Lite For?

The Telstra Lite is best suited to seniors and people that don’t want to use their phone much and don’t need much on their phone aside from calls and texts. But if you need to use the internet often or do more than the basic things the phone can do then the Telstra Lite is not for you.

Telstra Lite 2

Telstra Lite 2

The Telstra Lite 2 is the second of the Telstra Lite phones and it was released in 2020. It is an upgraded version of the Telstra with better features and newer hardware. The phone is a basic phone with decent features and it is easy to use. It has support for 3G, 4G and 4GX which is a nice upgrade from the Telstra Lite. it is quite a nice phone that is great for seniors and is user friendly meaning it could be good for you.

Outside Of The Phone

The Telstra Lite 2 is lightweight and has a really nice looking design that is quite basic but works rather well. It is bigger and slightly heavier than the Telstra Lite but it is decent quality. The Telstra Lite 2 is black with the Telstra logo printed on the back of the phone. The front of the phone features a 2.8 inch 320 x 240 display and a physical keypad with large keys.

The display is quite good and it bigger, brighter and a lot more colorful than the display on the Telstra Lite. The display is an improvement and step up of the Telstra Lite in many ways. The keypad is also much better because it is bigger and the keys are more spaced out making it a lot easier to see and use which is a really good improvement from the keypad on the Telstra Lite.

The front of the phone also has a small front facing camera and the top of the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Micro USB port. The bottom of the phone has a catch to help you remove the back cover and the back of the phone has a rear camera and a flashlight.

Overall the body of the Telstra Lite 2 is basic but much better than the Telstra Lite. It is bigger, better and nicer than it’s predecessor which makes the phone more attractive and much easier to see and use.

Menu & Navigation

The Telstra Lite 2 has a great menu that is very bright and colorful which makes it easy to see and very user friendly. The icons are large, bright and quite colorful so you won’t miss what you are looking for. It is a much needed improvement over the Telstra Lite and it is great for seniors and anyone with vision problems.

Navigation is easy and is done using the navigation keys on the keypad. It is easier than the Telstra Lite but sometimes the button presses can act up a bit but it works fine most of the time. Navigating through menus and apps is quick and easy to do and it is also quite snappy and responsive when navigating through the phone.

Overall the menu and navigation on the Telstra Lite 2 is easy and basic. The menu icons are large and navigation is quick and easy. Sometimes the button presses act up at bit but it works fine most of the time meaning it is a great improvement from the menu and navigation on the Telstra Lite.

Internet & Connectivity

The Telstra Lite 2 can connect to the internet via WiFi but it does not have a web browser or any web related apps on it. For this reason I find it odd that WiFi is included on the phone because it is pretty much useless due to the lack of a web browser and web related features. I’m guessing the ability to connect to WiFi is so you can use WiFi calls but I have not been able to find out exactly what it is there for.

Connectivity is limited on The Telstra Lite 2 and is much like the connectivity on the Telstra Lite. It has Bluetooth which works fine for transferring files between other Bluetooth devices and there is also a headphone jack and a Micro USB port. But other than that there are no other connectivity features on the phone.

Overall internet and connectivity is bad on the Telstra Lite 2 and even though it has WiFi there is not web browser or any other web related features on the phone. This means that WiFi is pretty much useless on the phone connectivity is pretty much the same as it’s predecessor.

The internet and connectivity features are slightly better on the Telstra Lite because you have email and a web browser on that phone but the lack of them on the Telstra Lite 2 is a big downside for those who want them. This makes the Telstra Lite 2 a bad choice for anyone that wants to use the internet on their phone.

Apps & Other Features

The Telstra Lite 2 has a decent selection of apps but they are all basic apps that are found on most phones. It has pretty much the same apps as the Telstra Lite like Calls, SMS, Contacts, Media Player, File Browser and other similar apps. The only difference is that many of these apps are updated versions and are easier to use thanks to the large display and key.

There is no app store or any other way to download apps just like on the Telstra Lite. Other features on the Telstra Lite 2 include an FM radio, voice recorder and a camera that isn’t that good. The phone also has a flashlight which is decent and 57.43MB internal storage that is expandable up to 32GB using Micro SD card. That being said the Telstra Lite 2 is still a basic and quite limited phone.

Overall apps on the Telstra Lite 2 are quite limited and it only has basic apps that come on all phone with no app or store or any other way to download other apps. Even though the apps are updated version and are easier to use they are still basic and limited. The Telstra Lite 2 is also limited in other features similar to it’s predecessor with it only having things like an FM radio, camera and a flashlight.

The apps and features on the Telstra Lite 2 could have been a lot better and have good potential. But it’s still not too bad for a cheap and basic phone like the Telstra Lite 2.

Who Is The Telstra Lite 2 For?

The Telstra Lite 2 is good for seniors and anyone else that wants a basic phone for calls, texts and basic apps like the ones that are included on the phone. But if you want to use the internet or different apps the Telstra Lite 2 is not for you because you will not be able to do that on the phone.

Telstra Lite 3

Telstra Lite 3

The Telstra Lite 3 is third and latest of the Telstra Lite phones. It is an upgraded version of the Telstra Lite and the Telstra Lite 2 with different features and upgraded hardware. The phone is a basic phone with decent features but in some ways it is a step back from the Telstra Lite 2. It has support for 3G, 4G and 4GX which is great and it is a nice looking phone. If you are looking for something basic it might be good for you.

Outside Of The Phone

The Telstra Lite 3 is lightweight and has a really nice looking design but it looks a bit different to the Telstra Lite 2. It is smaller and slightly lighter than the Telstra Lite 2 but it is still decent quality. The Telstra Lite 3 is black with the Telstra logo printed on the back of the phone. The front of the phone features a 2.4 inch QVGA display and a physical keypad with medium sized keys.

The display is smaller than the Telstra Lite 2 but it is slightly better quality and it is bright and colorful to. The keypad is also smaller than the Telstra Lite 2 but bigger than the Telstra Lite. It should have had a bigger keypad at least the same size as the Telstra Lite 2 but it does still work well for what it is. The top of the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and the bottom of the phone has a Micro USB port.

The bottom right side of the phone has a catch to help you remove the back cover and the back of the phone has a rear camera and a flashlight. Overall the body of the Telstra Lite 3 is basic but decent and it is a slight step back from the Telstra Lite 2. It works well but considering it is an upgraded version of the previous Telstra Lite phones it should be bigger and better than it is.

Menu & Navigation

The Telstra Lite 3 has great menu that is quite bright, colorful and easy to see. The menu has medium sized icons that are colorful and the menu is easy to see and use. But it is a step back from the Telstra Lite 2 which had bigger icons and is much more brighter and colorful. It is still a decent and better than the first Telstra Lite phone but it should be a bit better than it is.

Navigation is quite good on the Telstra Lite 3 and is done using the navigation buttons on the keypad. It is easy to do and quick to switch through the menu and apps. The button presses are also great and I’m yet to have any problems with them acting up like I did on the Telstra Lite 2. For this reason there is a slight improvement in navigation on the Telstra Lite 3 but the menu sets things back a bit.

Overall the menu and navigation on the Telstra Lite 3 is easy and basic. The menu has medium sized icons and is not as bright and colorful as the Telstra Lite 2 but it is still easy to use. Navigation is quick and easy and I haven’t had any problems with it. This means the menu is not as good as it’s predecessor but navigation has had a slight improvement from the Telstra Lite 2.

Internet & Connectivity

The Telstra Lite 3 does not have WiFi and it cannot connect to the internet in any way. It does not have a web browser or any web related features meaning you can’t do anything internet related on the phone. I’m not sure what the reason for this is but it should have had WiFi and a basic web browser but for some reason it doesn’t have anything like that.

For this reason internet is a step back from the previous Telstra Lite phones and the worst in the Telstra Lite range due to the absence of the internet and web related features on the phone. Connectivity is limited on the Telstra Lite 3 and it has the same connectivity features as the previous Telstra Lite phones.

It has Bluetooth for transferring files between other Bluetooth devices, a headphone jack and Micro USB port. But other than that there no other connectivity features on the phone. Overall internet and connectivity is bad on the Telstra Lite 3. There is no way to connect to the internet and no web related features on the phone making it the worst in the Telstra Lite range when it comes to internet.

Connectivity is quite limited and is the same as the Telstra Lite 2 meaning you can’t do much with the phone other than basic tasks. The lack of internet on the Telstra Lite 3 is a big downside making it a bad choice for anyone that wants the internet on their phone because it is not possible on the Telstra Lite 3.

Apps & Other Features

The Telstra Lite 3 has a decent selection of apps but they are all basic apps that are found on most phones. It has pretty much the same apps as the previous Telstra Lite phones like Calls, SMS, Contacts, Media Player, File Browser and other similar apps. It does include a couple of new apps which are Fake Call and Call Filter which are a first for the Telstra Lite range but they are basic and nothing that interesting.

There is no app store or any other way to download other apps because of the lack of internet on the phone. Other features on the Telstra Lite 3 include an FM radio, voice recorder and a camera which is worse than the camera on the Telstra Lite 2. The phone also has a flashlight which is decent and 128MB internal storage that is expandable using a Micro SD card. That being said the Telstra Lite 3 is still a basic and quite limited phone.

Overall apps are limited on the Telstra Lite 3 as it only includes basic apps and there is no app store or any other way to download other apps. It is also limited in other features with it only having things like an FM radio, low quality camera and a flashlight. This means that the Telstra Lite 3 is a step back from it’s predecessor and should have been a lot better in many different ways. Although it’s basic and has good potential it isn’t too bad for a cheap and basic phone.

Who Is The Telstra Lite 3 For?

The Telstra Lite 3 is good for seniors and anyone who is looking for a basic phone for primally calls and texts. But if you want to use the internet and other apps aside from the basic apps on the phone the Telstra Lite 3 is not for you because you can’t do these things on the phone.

Telstra Lite Phones Which One Is Best?

The Telstra Lite phones vary in size and feature but they all have their own purpose. It’s a bit hard to answer the question of which one is best because the answer is the one that is suits your needs. By that I mean the Telstra Lite phone that is best depends on how you look at it and what you are going to be doing with the phone.

It also depends on if you want a 3G or 4G phone as the Telstra Lite is the only phone in the Telstra Lite range that is 3G only. This means that once 3G is switched off in your country you won’t able to use it anymore and you will have to get the Telstra Lite 2, Telstra Lite 3 or a different phone entirely. For this reason it might best to get the Telstra Lite 2 or the Telstra Lite 3 to avoid this issue.

But like I said it also depends on what you are going to be doing on the phone meaning the Telstra Lite may still be good for you while it can still be used. If you want to know which is the best overall out of the Telstra Lite phones that can be determined by looking at which one does best for the different things it does.

Which Telstra Lite Phone Is Best?

For internet access the Telstra Lite is the best as it’s the only one in the Telstra Lite range with a web browser and email. But display wise the Telstra Lite 2 is best as it has the biggest and brightest display and also the largest keypad in the Telstra Lite range. For calls and texts anyone of the Telstra Lite phones will be fine and hardware wise the Telstra Lite 2 has the best hardware that is even a bit better than the Telstra Lite 3.

So as you can see the best Telstra Lite phone depends on how you are going to be using it and how well they all perform. My opinion is that the Telstra Lite 2 is the best of the Telstra Lite phones overall due to it having the best hardware, best display and best menu out of all the phones in the Telstra Lite range. But as I said when deciding which one to buy you need to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Which Telstra Lite Phone Should I Choose?

You should choose the Telstra Lite if you want to access the internet for basic web browsing or email. If you don’t need internet than the Telstra Lite 2 or the Telstra Lite 3 will be fine. But if you need a large keypad the Telstra Lite is not a good choice because the phone has a small keypad. So if that’s the case go with the Telstra Lite 2 for a large display and large keypad.

If you just want to use your phone for calls and texts then any phone in the Telstra Lite range will be fine for that. But if you want the one with best hardware you should choose the Telstra Lite 2 and if you want the latest phone in the Telstra Lite range then you should choose the Telstra Lite 3. As I said the best Telstra Lite phone is the phone that suits your needs and once you figure that out you will be able to decide which one is the right phone for you.

Conclusion

In conclusion the Telstra Lite phones are a range of basic phones that are sold by Telstra. They are basic phones designed for seniors and anyone that wants a basic phone that is easy to use. The Telstra Lite range consists of 3 phones which are the Telstra Lite, Telstra Lite 2 and Telstra Lite 3.

They all have some basic apps on them and decent features but they all have their downsides as well. The Telstra Lite is best for internet access as it is the only phone in the Telstra Lite range that allows you to do web related tasks. The Telstra Lite 2 has the best display, keypad and hardware and the Telstra Lite 3 is best if you don’t care about the drawbacks and want the latest phone in the Telstra Lite range.

The Telstra Lite 2 is the best phone overall in the Telstra Lite range in my opinion due to it having the best display, keypad and hardware. But the best Telstra Lite phone for is the one that suits your needs. Always consider what you are doing to be using the phone for and choose the one that suits your needs the best. If you do that you will be able to decide which Telstra Lite phone is the right phone for you.
